To say this was unexpected is an understatement. The enigma that is Jai Paul released a self-titled album tonight via Bandcamp. While all sixteen of the tracks are untitled, track nine is definitely a finished version of “Jasmine”. Jai Paul has not yet publicly acknowledged the album, but this marks the first time a remotely official full length has been released by the British producer. You can stream the album below, but it is definitely worth the ₤7 price tag.
Update: It has been confirmed that this is NOT an official album and is in fact an illegal leak. Via Jai Paul’s twitter “To confirm: demos on bandcamp were not uploaded by me, this is not my debut album. Please don’t buy. Statement to follow later. Thanks, Jai.”
The album has now been taken down from Bandcamp. This follows Dazed Digital writer Owen Myers’ tweet that Paul told him, “This is an unofficial release. Official releases are handled by XL. Jai Paul had his laptop stolen,” and that “there will be a statement at 3pm.”
Daft Punk previewed their new single, “Get Lucky”, featuring Pharrell & Nile Rodgers, on an advertisement for their upcoming album, Random Access Memories, during tonight’s episode of Saturday Night Live. Look for the album in stores on May 21st.
