Fredo Santana & LiL Reese – Thats A No No
Saturday afternoon banger.
Video curator site Network Awesome takes a look at the up and coming “drill” hip hop movement out of Chicago. Playlist after the jump.
“Since hip hop’s inception Chicago has struggled to find a cohesive scene, a unified expression of what Chicago rap actually is. Spending over 30 years in the shadow of cities like New York, LA and Atlanta, Chi-town has never had a strong presence and identity in the all-consuming world of Hip Hop, with the exception of a couple of big names like Kanye and Common.
But now a group of very young rappers, producers and video makers from the poorest, most violent areas of the city are rising up. Letting their voices and stories be heard via no-budget DIY videos on youtube, they are putting their city on the map, on their own terms. In the last 2 to 3 years a rap movement, volatile as it is, has finally emerged from one of the USA’s most dangerous places.”
