beat sampras ft O Billz & Sha Hustle – Hood Mimosa

Posted by: noble savage on 30/06/2017 in Featured, Music

On the eve of the 150th birthday of Canada, we are extremely proud to premiere “Hood Mimosa”, the first official single off our ITZSOWEEZEE brother beat sampras’ forthcoming EP. “Hood Mimosa” features Harlem emcee O Billz, along with fellow Toronto representative Sha Hustle, and it’s the culmination of sampras’ efforts over the past year. He’s been spending countless hours in the studio perfecting his vision, and it’s finally time to reveal what he’s been cooking up. On the track, sampras lays down a funky, bouncing bassline, and then layers stuttering drums and futuristic piano stabs over top – setting the groundwork for O Billz and Sha Hustle to do their thing on the mic. The result is an instantly infectious hiphop cut that would sound as appropriate booming out of your car stereo system as it would at a summer cookout or block party. But don’t just take our word for it – stream the track below and get familiar, because beat sampras is here to claim the throne.

PREMIERE: Dom Dias – (–/–/16) Throwaway EP

Posted by: noble savage on 30/12/2016 in Featured, Music

dom-dias-throwaway-ep

To say Dom Dias is one of the hardest working producers in Toronto is an understatement. In 2016 alone, we had the privilege of premiering and posting 10 of his projects, including some stellar originals, remixes, and EPs. On top of his musical output, Dom played some of the biggest electronic music shows in the city alongside heavyweights like Snakehips, Ookay, THUGLI, and more. 2016 has been a hell of a year for the kid, and he is closing it out by letting go of his (–/–/16) Throwaway EP. The release contains six previously unreleased original demos that Dom has been dropping throughout his sets, and vary from hiphop instrumentals to 128 BPM dancehall/baile funk-influenced electronic bangers. The best part about the drop is that it’s absolutely free. So, if you haven’t already become familiar with Dom Dias in 2016, now’s your chance to start 2017 off on the right foot. To Dom, we’d just like to say: may the new year bring you continued growth and success in both your musical and personal endeavours – we’ll be here to support as always! Stream below and get the free download via Dropbox.

PREMIERE: Mura Masa – Love$ick (Dom Dias Remix)

Posted by: noble savage on 08/11/2016 in Featured, Music

dom-dias-mura-masa-lovesick-remix

It’s always a good feeling when Dom Dias hits us up to premiere one of his creations, because we know our ears are in for a treat. Today, the Toronto producer blesses us with a solid remix of “Love$ick”, the breakout single by UK representative Mura Masa. The original, and the single release featuring A$AP Rocky (check the video in our previous post), are melodic affairs, full of piano stabs, flutes, steel drums, and soulful vocal chops. Dom ups the ante on his remix, by focusing on the steel drums, adding in a stuttering bass line, and reworking the record into his signature Caribbean-flavoured style. Think of the original as the jerk chicken, A$AP Rocky’s version as the rice and peas, and Dom’s as the pepper sauce that brings all of the ingredients together. Press play and taste the delicious blend that Dom has cheffed up – you won’t be disappointed. He’s also made the release available as a free download, so grab that while it lasts! Be sure to catch him as he opens for Snakehips this Friday, November 11th, at The Danforth Music Hall (147 Danforth Ave, Toronto). For more information, check out the Facebook event page. He’ll also be playing the Wrong Angle Records Party at Maison Mercer (15 Mercer St, Toronto) on Saturday, November 12th, and you can find more information about that on Facebook as well.

PREMIERE: Dom Dias – Dani Can’t Stop

Posted by: noble savage on 19/07/2016 in Featured, Music

dom dias dani cant stop

Less than two weeks after dropping his stellar remix to “Crush On You” by The Jets, Dom Dias returns to defend his title as one of the hardest working producers in Toronto. On “Dani Can’t Stop”, Dom cooks up a heavy moombahton/trap banger that reworks two classic records by California legends, Red Hot Chili Peppers. Light rain transforms into a torrential downpour as the guitar licks from “Can’t Stop” are blended over Dom’s signature drums, eventually making way for the warped vocals from “Californication” and an electronic menagerie of bass, stuttering synths, and air horns. The drums pound back in to complete the frenetic tribal vibe, and just like that, Dom returns for round two of the build-up and drop in this high-octane, genre-bending track. It’s like he’s reminding all of us that he’s been steadily climbing the ranks and can’t stop until he’s the king of the jungle. Be sure to catch Dom as he plays alongside Tropkillaz and OSKI this Friday, July 22nd, at The Hoxton (69 Bathurst St, Toronto). For more information, check out the Facebook event page.

PREMIERE: The Jets – Crush On You (Dom Dias Remix)

Posted by: noble savage on 06/07/2016 in Featured, Music

dom dias the jets crush on you

Another month, another Dom Dias remix… After blessing us with his excellent remix of “Feeling Good” by Nina Simone, the hardest working producer in Toronto returns with a tropical remix to The Jets’ 1986 classic, “Crush On You”. The track, beginning with the sounds of a rain shower, instantly brings to mind a sweltering, humid, and sticky day like those we’ve been having in the city lately. Forty seconds in, the snarl of a tiger leads into a slowed down sample of Elizabeth Wolfgramm’s hook, layered over a hazy instrumental. The funk breakdown near the middle of the track is a reminder that even in the summer heat, there’s always time to get up and dance. Overall, it’s a fun rework of an old-time favourite, and it’s meant to be enjoyed after a few too many mojitos with your l’amour du jour. Kudos to Dom for always bringing something different and enjoyable to the table, and for allowing us to share his creations with the world.

PREMIERE: Rihanna – Pon De Replay (Dom Dias Remix)

Posted by: noble savage on 16/05/2016 in Featured, Music

dom dias rihanna pon de replay remix

If Toronto gave out awards to the hardest-working producers in Toronto, then Dom Dias would definitely be on the short list. In just over a month, the rising star has released multiple remixes, all of which are certified dance floor heaters. His latest release, which we’re blessed to premiere today, breathes new life into Rihanna’s debut single, “Pon De Replay”. Before Rihanna morphed into her BadGirlRiri persona, she was a humble 17 year-old from Barbados and an emerging talent in the Jay-Z-helmed Def Jam roster. On this remix, Dom, who is well-versed in Caribbean/Afrobeat sounds, returns Rihanna to her roots, while adding a huge dose of his signature big-room bass. The result is a track that has the potential to be played at parties of all sizes, from traditional sweaty dance halls to massive open-air music festivals. We’ll say this much right now – the scene is Dom Dias’ for the taking – we’re just thrilled to be along for the ride. Stream the remix below and revisit Dom’s contribution to the ITZSOWEEZEE Spotlight Series in our previous post.

PREMIERE: Drake – One Dance (Dom Dias Remix)

dom dias drake one dance remix

Exactly two weeks ago, Toronto producer Dom Dias let us premiere his stellar remix of “Holdin’ On To Me” by NGHTMRE. Now, as if he was worried people would start calling him lazy, the Sinhalese sensation delivers one of the best remixes of Drake’s reggae-tinged “One Dance” that I’ve heard since the Views track was released earlier this month. Looping the sweet Kyla vocal sample and layering it over a wobbly, tropical, moombahton bassline, Dom transforms the track into a full blown heater – something that should, and will, be played at parties all summer long. I can already picture dance floors erupting into a slow wining groove as soon as the chorus hits. Stream this track below and stop sleeping on Toronto mans like Dom Dias for real.

PREMIERE: NGHTMRE – Holdin’ On To Me (Dom Dias Remix)

Posted by: noble savage on 11/04/2016 in Featured, Music

dom dias nghtmre holdin on to me remix

Rising Toronto producer Dom Dias has given us the honour of premiering his latest track – a house/trap remix of “Holdin’ On To Me” by Los Angeles’ NGHTMRE. You may remember Dom from his high-octane contribution to our Spotlight Series back in December, as well as his recently released coolMINTep, which we shared with you all earlier this month. On his current remix, Dom transforms NGHTMRE’s smooth future bass original into a heater that has the potential to set dance floors on fire, elegantly switching between a grooving house bass line and a melodic, yet heavy, trap drop. The track also serves as Dom’s contribution to Mad Decent and Wavo’s remix competition – the winner will be featured on Mad Decent, and may also be considered for an official label release. So, do yourselves a favour by taking a listen below, and do Dom a favour by voting for him in the contest.

PREMIERE: beat sampras – said it

Posted by: noble savage on 09/04/2016 in Featured, Music

beat sampras said it

Toronto producer beat sampras (ITZSOWEEZEE/Bedroomer) has been hard at work for the past several months, dropping a fresh mixtape called The Remixes in November, DJing at the flyest parties in the city, as well as recently releasing his SXSW 2016 Mix less than a month ago. And now, he’s gearing up to release a brand new EP in the summer. “said it” is the first offering from the EP – a smooth-as-fuck instrumental flip of Rihanna’s sexual slow jam “Yeah, I Said It”. Featuring a chopped and screwed sample, with an unsubtle addition of drums, bass, and keys, the track is perfectly suited to driving slow through the city lights or some aphroditic activities with your amour. Stream the track below and definitely grab the free download via Bandcamp.

P.S. Make sure you come out to The Libertine (1307 Dundas St W, Toronto) tonight to catch beat sampras live alongside ITZSOWEEZEE co-founder DeMiggs at Coast. You don’t want to miss this one – trust me.

PREMIERE: Price – Departure EP

Posted by: noble savage on 19/01/2016 in Featured, Music

price departure

Our latest premiere comes from upstart Toronto emcee Price, who presents us with his new six-track EP, Departure. Price is an enigmatic artist hailing from our great city, who has garnered support from the likes of hip-hop veterans such as Statik Selektah, and has spent the past few years travelling across the Atlantic to Scandinavia to hone his craft. Upon his return, the self-described “millennial bohemian” hit the lab with renewed vigour in order to share his story with as many people as possible. On Departure, Price showcases his strong songwriting ability, easily flipping between lyrical tirades and melodic stanzas over some excellent production from his RouteNine6 camp. We want to congratulate Price on the release and wish him much success in his future endeavours. Support local artists and take in the full project below.

“I had to learn how to operate outside of my comfort zone. I had to put myself in positions that I had no way to determine the outcome. I had to learn how to love from a far and hope that the ones I was away from understood my motives for taking these chances so far from home. Departure is about perspective. When you’re stationary, you’re limited by your surroundings, so what might not be true here, may be true somewhere else. What they hate you for here, they might love somewhere else. What they couldn’t understand about you might be embraced somewhere else. When you’re trying to take your art to the next level, it all comes to the forefront.”
